SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

The School of Engineering and Environmental Studies (SEES) was among the first to be established by the Academic Board of the Polytechnic following a major restructuring in 1985. The Board decided to switch from the departmental structure to the school system for administrative convenience. The exercise provided an umbrella over departments that are similar and interrelated in nature. Going by the objectives for the establishment of the Polytechnic, SEES could rightly be considered as the core school of the institution. It is no wonder therefore that it has continued to occupy a center stage in the affairs of the Polytechnic.

The School of Engineering and Environmental Studies (SEES) was later split into School of Engineering (SE) and School of Environmental Studies (SES) after NBTE approved new departments for the school.

Accreditation Remarks

The department was granted accreditation and reaccreditation by the NBTE in the following programmes:

  1. National Diploma accreditation in 1984
  2. National Diploma accreditation in 1998
  3. Higher National Diploma preliminary approval in 2001 with the following options:

(a)      Structures;

(b)     Transportation

  2. National Diploma accreditation 2007
  3. Higher National Diploma accreditation in 2007

  1. Higher National Diploma accreditation in 2009 (Water Resources and Public Health option)

  4. The NBTE were in the institution this year and their exit report was good, we are still awaiting their formal communication for full accreditation of the HND programme.

The department is thus fully posed to meet the ever increasing challenges of providing middle cadre manpower in Civil Engineering Technology.
