The Edict that established the Polytechnic has stipulated among others the following aims and objectives:

1. a) To provide diverse instructions, training and research in technology, the science, commerce and humanities as well as other spheres of learning which may from time to time be approved by the Governing Council.
2. b) To provide courses of in-service instructions for members of the public service of the State and courses of like nature for persons unconnected with any of the public service as may be determined by the Council.
3. c) To promote the development of local technology and the adoption of appropriate technologies. The institution’s objectives are grouped as follows:
4. Social objectives;
5. Economic objectives;

iii.      Political objectives; and

1. Technological objectives.

To achieve these objectives, the institution among others:

1. Promote the concept of social responsibility on its intermediate and external environment by serving as an agent of imparting the best moral values and positive traditional norms of the society.
2. To produce competent manpower of highest caliber and in the right quality that will sustain the economy.

iii.      To inculcate in its students the spirit of tolerance of the divergent shades of opinion.

1. To keep abreast of all technological developments by producing competent higher and lower technicians.
